fever in the chat. A W. [Music] [Music] [Applause] The Indiana Fever just achieved something that seemed impossible 3 months ago. Theyâre now four games above 500 for the first time since 2015. And they did it without Caitlyn Clark on the floor. But thatâs not the shocking part. While everyone expected them to struggle without their superstar, they just broke four franchise records in a single game against Paige Beckers and the Dallas Wings.
But hereâs what nobody saw coming. Two players who werenât even on the roster at the start of the season just became the heroes of this incredible story. So what were those four records broken? Hereâs a hint. They involved Kelsey Mitchell, Aaliyah Boston, Natasha Howard, and newcomers Ary McDonald and Khloe Bby. If you support the fever, then smash that like button and comment, âIâve got the fever.â Letâs go.
The 100 win over Phoenix. Stephanie White called that a big win. Danny Mitchell. No, the former Dallas wing to Tasha Howard. Nobody was looking for this. We think Kelsey Mitchell was going to shoot. But that is the play to make right there. Nobody in the passing lane. Everyone expected the fever to crumble without Caitlyn Clark, but something magical happened instead.
Picture this scene on August 1st. Clark sits on the sideline for her sixth straight game with that groin injury she picked up on July 15th. No timetable for her return. The Dallas Wings book American Airlines Arena, home of the Mavericks, with Paige Beckers leading the charge, hungry for a win after dropping eight of their last 10 games. The pressure was real.
Could the Fever keep their hot streak alive without their superstar running the show? Wins in a row a season high. just how have you been able to find that rhythm over this this stretch? Uh I think itâs been about weâve had some practices and I think practicing has definitely tuned us up, you know, fine-tuning as far as the details.
Um I knew we knew before Allst start that, you know, the second half of the season is always about people making adjustments, people finding ways to stop what we have to do. And I think that on us, we we try to do a good job of staying locked in at practices and shootounds and all that kind of stuff to be to be where we need to be.
The opening tip revealed everything you needed to know about this fever teamâs mindset. They came out swinging like they had something to prove. No hesitation, no waiting around for someone else to take control. This wasnât going to be a survival game. This was going to be a statement. Kelsey Mitchell grabbed the reigns immediately.
She attacked the rim with purpose, knocked down confident shots, and set the tone that screamed, âWeâre not backing down.â Mitchell finished with 23 points on nine of 19 shooting, leading the team while carrying the load that Clark usually handles. She led the league in scoring throughout the entire July. 14 20point games this season in her eighth year.
She also has a couple of 30s and Mitchell trades the three. Now have a little bit of an advantage in the paint and they need to keep doing that. That time D Jane went for the steal and Mitchell kept it away from her. would not have taken that call so gently, shall we say. But Kehlani Brown was her buffer last year.
Is Mitchell all the way to the hole. So you stick together, communicate on defense. This is a high octane offensive team. Beautiful pass. Mitchell was so sure of that after she passed it, she started running down the other end. But Paige Beckers wasnât about to roll over. The rookie sensation fired back with 22 points on seven of 14 shooting, adding four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
She was the only Wings player to reach double digits, showing why sheâs considered a three-level score in her first WNBA season. This created the back and forth battle that had fans on the edge of their seats. Hereâs where it gets interesting, though. The free throw numbers told a controversial story. Dallas shot 25 free throws compared to Indianaâs 13.
Thatâs almost double. Fans immediately jumped on social media questioning the officiating and accusing Beckers of flopping to draw fouls. Even Wings head coach Chris Clanes expressed frustration with the officiating crew after the game. Flock almost the same. Carrington the spin move. No foul call. The real disaster came from DJ Jane Carrington.
The reigning most improved player had an absolute nightmare performance. just four points with five turnovers. In the final minute of the third quarter, she dribbled up court and launched an errant shot that had fans shaking their heads. Her struggles became a major factor in Dallas falling apart. Go to the basket here, but you got to go up strong right there.
Donât shy away from the defense because they will get out in transition. And Kelsey Mitch doing what she does. Indiana up in Dallas. When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 88 to 78 in favor of Indiana. The fever had just proved theyâre way more than Caitlyn Clark, plus four players trying to keep up. They showed they could win games they were supposed to win, just like coach Stephanie White acknowledged after the victory.
You know, finding ways to to get wins, and thatâs going on some scoring bursts. Thatâs being able to um rely on multiple players. Um getting stops when when needed. um you know, making adjustments and um continuing to grow. I mean, this is a group thatâs been resilient all season long, and I think that um we have such quality depth that that we can rely on one another um and it and it and we rely on one another in in in certain moments.
Two players who werenât even on the roster 3 months ago just became the Feverâs secret weapons. Meet Ary McDonald and Khloe Bby, two mid-season pickups that nobody saw coming. These werenât headline signings. They werenât supposed to change everything. They were depth moves, insurance policies for a team trying to stay competitive.
Stick to your defensive principles. This is an Indiana team that has very nimble on the offensive end. McDonald from the outside rattles another three. Thatâs her third of the ball. McDonaldâs story reads like something out of a movie script. She was unsigned at the start of the season. No team wanted her services.
Then the fever called on June 25th with a rest of season contract offer after being with the team for a couple of weeks prior on a hardship contract. Fast forward to this game against Dallas and sheâs dropping 15 points with six assists while running the offense like sheâs been there all year. This came right after her career-high performance against Phoenix the game before where she showed she could handle bigger moments.
She should have looked up and said, âOh, arenât you an allar?â pass and Cunningham completes it. Thatâs what Indiana does better than anybody in the WNBA. Hereâs what made McDonaldâs special that night. Her point guard instincts kicked in immediately. She knew when to push the pace, when to slow things down, and how to get teammates involved.
Coach White noticed this right away, saying Macdonald has a point guard mentality and understanding of her impact on the game. Kelsey Mitchell called her a blessing in disguise for how she stepped up when the team needed leadership most. Yeah. I mean, I think the biggest thing with Ary is that that sheâs dependable.
Um, and sheâs dependable and not not always for production, but um sheâs she she understands uh the impact that she can make in the game and she understands how to do it. you know, starting it on the defensive end, pushing pace, um, dictating tempo, getting to the rim, creating shots for her teammates, you know, all of those things.
And sheâs got incredible awareness. Um, and so she she understands when sheâs hot, um, and she understands when somebody else is hot and how to get them the ball. Um, but I Iâve just been really proud, um, to see her confidence grow in our system and the ownership that sheâs taking in being that that leader on the floor uh, for us.
Then thereâs Khloe Bby who made an immediate statement. She knocked down two crucial three-pointers in limited minutes off the bench. Those werenât lucky shots. They were perfectly timed momentum builders that gave the fever breathing room. Bibyâs ability to stretch the floor created space for other players to operate. Coach White praised her quick integration into the system, saying she understood how to make plays and showed readiness to shoot when opportunities came.
All right, say Boston rebound to Mitchell. McDonald splits the D. Bby, this is where sheâs good. She can extend the defense and sheâs done it for that nice jumper. Beckers again. Another double-digit game. Six in the quarter. Hereâs Bby, buries the three. Bby, donât do it like that. But hereâs where it gets really interesting.
After just two games with the team, Bby earned herself a rest of season contract. The Fever saw enough in those limited minutes to commit to her for the remainder of the year. She addressed a specific need that White identified, noting that Bby is a stretch forward and sheâs a shooter and we havenât had that. You assigned Khloe Bibby to a rep six season contract today.
Just what impressed you about her on that 7day and those two games she been in? Well, number one, just the the way that she she fit in right away. Um, she gives us a a different look uh from that forward position with her ability to stretch the floor floor. Um and in particularly in in two games where we really needed to create space for AB to go to work inside, she she was able to do that for us.
Um she came in and she learned the system right away. Um it just was was such an easy transition and and and sheâs produced. These two unknowns became the difference makers in the Feverâs biggest winning record since 2015. McDonald provided the point guard leadership they desperately needed. Bby gave them the floor spacing that opened up the entire offense.
Coach Whiteâs system clicked because these players understood their roles immediately and executed without hesitation. The Fever werenât just surviving without Clark anymore. They were thriving because players like McDonald and Bby stepped into roles they werenât originally signed to fill. But they werenât the only ones making history that night.
While everyone watched the scoreboard, The Fever were quietly breaking records that hadnât been touched in franchise history. Four different achievements happened in one night. These werenât just good performances. These were record-breaking moments that rewrote what this team could accomplish. Hereâs the first one that shocked everyone.
Aaliyah Boston and Natasha Howard became the first WNBA teammates ever to record at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the same game. Think about that for a second. In the entire history of the WNBA, no two teammates had ever achieved those numbers together in one night. Boston put up 12 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block.
Howard matched her with 11 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. Watch the attention Boston gets. Opens up a lot for the guards. Hereâs Boston. Becker had nothing she could do. No rebound. Howard, thatâs rebound number nine to go along with her nine points. Beautiful dish inside to Boston.
weâll do is share the basketball here. Just a little dump down to Boston. Hey, Terrington rolls to the hole. Howard with a rejection to the basket here, but you got to go up strong right there. Letâs talk about Howardâs 16 rebounds specifically. That was a careerhigh for her.
She dominated the boards like she was playing against high school players. Boston extended her double double streak to five games with her 11 rebounds. Sheâs been consistent all season long, but this performance showed she could elevate her game when the team needed it most. That pass outside to Howard Boston at the basket. Foul on Haley Jones.
It is not a move her out geographically away from the from the lane to get her off the basket. Tough rebound there. Geil shooterâs going to come out. Lee Uru will check in. But thatâs not all. Kelsey Mitchell now leads the entire WNBA in most 20point games after the All-Star break. Her 23 points against Dallas marked her 13th game this season with 20 or more points.
Mitchell has been the steady scoring threat that keeps this offense moving even when other players struggle. The 100 win over Phoenix. Stephanie White called that a big win. Danny Mitchell no former Dallas wing Natasha Howard. Nobody was looking for this. We think Kelsey Mitchellâs going to shoot, but that is the play to make right there.
Nobody in the passing lane. Hereâs where it gets really interesting. Khloe Bby set a franchise record by hitting multiple three-pointers in each of her first three games with a fever. Those two three-pointers she knocked down werenât just nice shots. They made history. No other Fever player had ever started their tenure with the team by hitting multiple threes in their first three appearances.
The fourth record belongs to Ary McDonald. She became the third fastest player in Fever history to reach 150 points and 50 assists. The only players ahead of her on that list are Caitlyn Clark and Tama Catchings. Thatâs elite company for someone who wasnât even on the roster 3 months ago. McDonaldâs ability to score and facilitate has been crucial in filling the point guard role.
For us, uh, when we get a chance to really put ourselves in a position to, you know, win games, we got to win them. Um, I think anybody, any competitor knows that when we say win them, win them. And I think we to we took some time off, a little we got a little drop off today. And I think thatâs what she talking about. It it was inconsistent.
I think we could have been a little bit better. Four records in one night proved this wasnât luck. This was a team finding its identity and showing what they could accomplish when everyone contributed. The Boston Howard combination gave them front court dominance they hadnât seen before.
Mitchell provided the consistent scoring punch. Bby stretched the floor immediately. McDonald ran the offense like a veteran, but the real fireworks came after the final buzzer. Obviously, Arie, you only joined this team mid-season, officially on a full contract now. Congratulations, but just the impact that AR has had overall. How do you feel like Oh, itâs unbelievable.
Um, like this is our blessing in disguise. We always tell her that we appreciate her. Seriously. Kelsey Mitchellâs postgame comments contained a subtle message that Fever fans had been waiting to hear. The locker room buzzed with energy after their historic win. Players were still riding high from breaking four records in one night.
Mitchell stepped up to the microphones with confidence radiating from every word she spoke. Her words seemed innocent on the surface, but there was something deeper brewing underneath. Mitchell praised her teammates for stepping up and filling roles when certain players werenât available. She specifically highlighted Ary McDonaldâs contributions, saying, âThis is our blessing in disguise.
â That phrase hit different when you consider the context of recent roster moves. Um, our season was all over the place obviously with, you know, the people that was on the team, the people that wasnât on the team, injury, um, you know, 2 not being around as much with her injuries and just, you know, it takes a lot for a pro to step up and, you know, be where her feet is and and step and fill in shoes that, you know, a lot of not a lot of people expect.
And I think for Eric, um, she compliments myself, all the other players so well because she just gets it, um, as far as knowing where people are, knowing the chemistry. Um, and I think for for us to her, we have to make sure that we keep, you know, keep pat on the back because this is a big position to fill and I think that sheâs doing unbelievably well. So, shout out to you.
Appreciate it. Hereâs where it gets really interesting. Mitchellâs comments about Macdonald being a blessing in disguise carried a subtle jab at Dana Bonnerâs departure from the team. The fever waved Bonner earlier this season, which freed up resources to keep McDonald and signed Khloe Bby.
Mitchellâs praise for the new additions suggested the team felt liberated after those changes were made. She went deeper into McDonaldâs impact, stating, âWe always tell her that we appreciate her seriously because our season was all over the place and it takes a lot for a pro to step up. You know, be where her feet is and fill in shoes that not a lot of people expect.
â This wasnât just praise for Macdonald. This was Mitchell acknowledging how much better the team chemistry had become with the new roster construction. Coach Stephanie White emphasized the teamâs us versus the world mentality paying off in a big way. Whiteâs focus on resilience and overcoming challenges became the foundation of this teamâs identity.
The players bought into this mindset completely. They started playing with a chip on their shoulder that translated into wins on the court. Players talked openly about their improved chemistry and competitive edge after the game. There was a sense of freedom in how they moved and played together. The energy felt different.
The commitment to each other seemed stronger. These werenât just empty words after a good win. This was a team that found its identity through adversity. And I asked um Kelsey in regards to uh or about this, but Aaron just the impact that sheâs had for you all this season. Um what do you like most about what youâve seen from her thus far? No, number one, her energy.
I mean, she is um sheâs an energy giver. Sheâs fast. Um her speed changes the game for us. Uh her ability to to get the ball from one end to the other quickly. Um her ability to get into players defensively. Um you know, she she changes the game for us in in that way. Um I have continued to be impressed with just how how quickly she immersed herself uh you know, into our team and fit in right away.
Sheâs The anticipation for Clarkâs return added another layer to the excitement. Imagine this record-breaking group getting their superstar back. The chemistry they built without her will only get stronger when she rejoins the lineup. Mitchell and the rest of the team know theyâve proven something important during this stretch.
The Fever werenât just winning games anymore. They were building an identity that could carry them deep into the playoffs. The pieces fit together better than anyone expected. The roster moves created better balance. The players embraced their roles completely. And with Clark coming back to join this transformed team, 2025 is looking brighter than anyone imagined.
This Fever team just proved theyâre not just Caitlyn Clark plus four players trying to keep up. Theyâre a legitimate championship contender with depth that nobody saw coming. Four records broken in one night. Players like Ary McDonald becoming the third fastest in franchise history to reach 150 points and 50 assists.
Khloe Bby setting shooting records in her first three games. Aaliyah Boston and Natasha Howard making WNBA history together. With Clark returning to join this record-breaking group, the WNBA better take notice. The chemistry they built without her will only get stronger. The best is yet to come for Indiana, and 2025 might be the year everything changes.
